South East Cornwall Liberal Democrats were this week awarded the prestigious Penhaligon Award at the Liberal Democrats annual conference in Brighton.

The national award is given to the best local Liberal Democrat party for member recruitment and involvement.

South East Cornwall Liberal Democrats Chairman Cllr John Ault said: "We've had a great year this year in South East Cornwall, we've doubled our membership and gained control of Caradon District Council. We are extremely proud to be bringing this award back to Cornwall, and will do our best to follow the enthusiasm and energy of David Penhaligon - working our hardest for local people, campaigning to get the best deal for our area and building a hard-working and committed local party membership."
