Cllr John Turner has been elected the new leader of Caradon District Council.

Cllr Turner has been a district councillor for Menheniot and St. Ive ward since May 2003 and is the Caradon Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Services.

Cllr Turner, the only nomination for leader at the full council meeting on October 25th, said:

"I want to be here to deliver on the Liberal Democrats manifesto of improving the community of South East Cornwall as well as its economic regeneration in these uncertain times."

"I want to deliver this together, to work together for the good of the community. I won't walk away from this. I want to leave a mark on this council, not for me, but for the people of Caradon, so they can look back and say 'yes, they made a difference'."

The Liberal Democrats took control of Caradon District Council in May 2007, and have already delivered on their pledge to tackle parking charges - with council car parks now only charging 10p for the first hour. The Lib Dem promises to build 80 new affordable homes each year and to keep Council Tax below inflation are also on course to be delivered.
