Liberal Democrats controlling Caradon District Council have slashed Council Tax rises from an average of 7% since 1997, to 2.75%.

Liberal Democrats have fulfilled their manifesto promise to the residents of South East Cornwall, by setting a record low Council Tax increase at 2.75%, below average inflation.

Cllr. John Turner, Liberal Democrat Leader of Caradon District Council, said:

"Before the Liberal Democrats took control of Caradon, local council tax payers saw increases of 5% year on year. The Liberal Democrats have turned this around, with a Council Tax increase well below the average for the region and the country."

"The Liberal Democrats are making a real difference to local people, fulfilling our manifesto pledges to slash car parking charges, cut bureaucracy and keep council tax bills down. These changes mean there is more money in local people's pockets, rather than the council's - which has got to be a good thing."

• National figures put the inflation average at over 3% (an average of national CPI, RPI and RPIX figures).

• The average increase in 2007 for the South West was 4.5%, and 4.2% for England.
