Colin Breed MP congratulates Karen Gillard following her selection as Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for South East Cornwall

Following a hustings on Saturday, South East Cornwall Liberal Democrats have selected Karen Gillard as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for South East Cornwall.

Karen grew up on Rame Peninsula, going to school in Torpoint before studying Law at Plymouth University. Karen was called to the Bar in 2004, and led the Liberal Democrat group on Plymouth City Council for four years.

Karen said: "I am proud and excited by this opportunity to represent my home in Parliament. I will continue to put local people first and be a strong voice, fighting for the best deal for South East Cornwall. Growing up here, I am acutely aware of the problems facing local people from affordable housing to huge utility bills - we have got to stand up for our area."

Colin Breed MP said: "Karen is a strong local candidate who knows our area well. She will bring enthusiasm and hard work to the role, and fight to continue the Liberal Democrats' strong record for local people."
