Colin Breed Visits UAE to Connect Classrooms12.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 8th Apr 2009 Colin Breed, Liberal Democrat MP for South East Cornwall visited schools in the United Arab Emirates last month to view the links that have been built between UK schools and their Middle East counterparts under the British Council's 'Connecting Classrooms' programme. Colin met students and teachers involved in the project, in order to see how pupils can share experiences, increase their international awareness, prepare themselves for life and work in a global society, but also have fun and enjoy themselves at the same time. The delegation from the UK also met with education ministers and policy makers, such as the Minister of Education, Dr Hanif Hassan, providing the opportunity for them to discuss shared concerns on education and how schools thousands of miles away can be brought closer together. Upon returning from the UAE, Colin said; "This is a great opportunity for schools in the constituency to twin with schools in the UAE, to learn about different cultures and swap teaching ideas and styles. I know of at least one school in South East Cornwall that is interested, and I strongly urge others to take advantage of this opportunity by getting in touch with the British Council."
